Kupurā

Te ngākau o Kupurā (the heart of Kupurā)

Behind Kupurā

The heart of Kupurā and the meaning behind the logo.

The Kupurā emblem — maunga with three stars on the slope and koru unfurling across the base, bringing together Papatūānuku, Tāwhirimātea and Tangaroa.

Te whakaaro (reflect / thought)

The Kupurā logo brings together Papatūānuku, Tāwhirimātea and Tangaroa — whenua, hau and wai. Each represents something we can return to when we need to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

whenua (land)

Papatūānuku — whenua

Papatūānuku is held in the whenua and maunga — our foundation, our strength, and the reminder that we belong.

hau (wind)

Tāwhirimātea — hau

Tāwhirimātea is carried in the open space and sky — the breath that moves around and through us, reminding us to breathe, move and make space.

wai

Tangaroa — wai

Tangaroa lives within the flowing koru — the rhythm of wai, movement and change; a reminder that we don't always need to resist the current.

Te whakapā (getting in touch)

Together, they give meaning to a simple whakaaro at the heart of Kupurā:

I walk with the breath of Tāwhirimātea.

I stand with the strength of Papatūānuku.

I flow with the rhythm of Tangaroa.

I am allowed to rest.
I am ready to heal.
I am worthy of love.

This becomes more than a logo. It is a reminder to breathe, stand, flow — and return to yourself.

This work is dedicated to my nephews and nieces.

No matter where life takes you, you’ll always have somewhere to turn to when you need it. A place to find your footing, to remember who you are, and to know you’re never walking alone.
